Selling a coin collection? Let the Coinfully blog be your guide

Introducing the Coinfully Blog!

Aug 1st, 2022 · 4 min read

There’s nothing in the world quite like a coin collection. The mystique surrounding its provenance, wondering whose hands the coins have passed through – and, of course, its current market value.

Collections change hands all the time. They can be inherited, picked up at a garage sale or bought cheap at a flea market. But when they end up in the hands of people who aren’t coin enthusiasts and don’t know what to do with them, the choices aren’t always straightforward.

Deciding to sell the coins on is the easy part. But working out what they’re worth, getting good advice on how to make the sale and completing the transaction without worrying you’ve just been cheated out of a fortune are other matters entirely.

We’re here to point out the pitfalls of selling a coin collection and to show you the light

At Coinfully, we’ve seen so many people left bewildered and angry by coin dealers online and in coin shops who have lured them in with inflated stories about the value of their coin collections only to cut down that price as the deal nears completion.

We’ve heard of grandkids driving their inherited collection across three states only to be lowballed at the last minute by greedy coin dealers just out to make a fast buck.

We understand the frustration. That’s why we’ve started a blog – to make the life of an amateur coin seller easier and to show you all the pointers and pitfalls you need to make an informed decision on selling your own or inherited coin collection.

Why a blog about coin collecting?

At Coinfully, people come to us all the time looking for reliable information about inherited coin collections and coin collections they, too, may have accumulated over time. As passionate coin collectors ourselves, one thing we love most is helping other people understand more about numismatics, teaching them about the history behind their coins and what makes their coins valuable (and, in some cases, not so valuable).

The questions we get are many and wide-ranging, and so we thought it would be a good idea to lay some of the common ones out here in blog form. If you have inherited a coin collection or have your own collection you’re looking to sell, you don’t want to wade through page after page of information on the internet or from an anonymous dealer you’re not certain you can trust.

Our president, Wyatt McDonald, said: “We’re here to use our expertise to make your life as easy as possible. The aim of the blog is to give you the background information, the basics to look for, the advice that will help you understand what makes coins valuable, so you don’t get tripped up.

“That’s part of the reason we put together our Instant Value guide – to help people access reliable information about the value of rare coins and coin collections. The blog aims to take this further, looking in detail at what makes a coin collection valuable and what to do if you’ve inherited a coin collection, for example.”

With Coinfully in your corner, you’ll get a fair result – guaranteed
